More Ethiopian official and soldiers defect to Eritrea.

 

TPLF regime intensifying atrocities against Army members, Say defecting Ethiopian soldiers

Asmara, 21 April 2009 -(Shabait.com)- Defecting Ethiopian soldiers who arrived in Eritrea recently disclosed that the TPLF regime's divisive ploys and atrocities against Army members on the basis of ethnic origin is intensifying with each passing day.

They explained that in the event that any Army member puts forth opinions and questions as regards his rights and social issues, he is thrown to jail and face inhumane atrocities under the allegation that he is 'collaborator of opposition organizations.'

The defecting soldiers are Alelo Waj from Debub Hizboch, Mohammed Merhale Chama and Abdelkadir Mohammed Saleh both from the Somali ethnic group.

Private Alelo Waj disclosed that although the TPLF regime keeps on claiming through the mass media that it is increasing the salary of Army members, the prevailing reality on the ground, nonetheless, contradicts with such utterances. In this respect, he elaborated that the Army members are not in a position to be self-supporting, let alone assist their families as their salaries are being cut by the regime under various excuses, including for the purchase of clothes, shoes and belts.

An ANDM / EPRDF member defected from Ethiopia

(ION)-A management graduate of Bahir Dar University has just defected and taken refuge in Eritrea. Wendson Getahune had been a member of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM, a faction in the Ethiopian governing coalition EPRDF) and worked for the EPRDF as head of political affairs for the students in his university. He nevertheless came to the conclusion that the democratic system in Ethiopia did not work properly under the present political regime.

TPLF regime intensifying arrest moves against Army members, Say Defecting Ethiopian soldiers

Asmara, 6 April 2009 -(Shabait.com)- Defecting Ethiopian soldiers who arrived in Eritrea recently abandoning the TPLF regime said that the regime's resort to arrest moves against Army members of various ethnic groups keeps intensified from time to time.

They further indicated that the statement being made as if the regime's invasion of Somalia ended in success is creating controversy among the Army members, and that whenever one expresses views or opinion as regards the issue in any meeting, he is detained and eliminated under the allegation that the individual concerned intended to instigate revolt.

The defecting six Ethiopian soldiers are Omar Mohammed Omar and Omar Ahmed Hussein both from the Oromo ethnic group, Demsie Degun Delache from the Sidama ethnic group, Gebreslasie Gebru Meles from the Tigray ethnic group, and Gebremeskel Amare Worku and Tazeb Yirdaw Workie both from the Amhara ethnic group.
